Roni : Hi Rakib, how are you?

Rakib : I’m fine. And you?

Roni: I’m fine too. But I’m thinking about a great problem (সমস্যা) of our country.

Rakib : Which are you speaking of?

Roni: It is our illiteracy (সমস্যা) problem. What’s your opinion?

Rakib : Yes. It is a great problem as well (ভালো) as a curse for the country.

Roni : How ? What kind of problem (সমস্যা) does it create?

Rakib : Because without education no nation (জাতি) can develop. Ignorance (অশিক্ষা বা নিরক্ষরতা) creates Many other problems . Even illiteracy hinders all other development (উন্নয়নশীল) efforts.

Roni: Hmm. It makes a nation (জাতি) paralyzed. Even an illiterate (নিরক্ষর) nation can not stand upright amongst the other nation (জাতি) of the world.

Rakib : Exactly so. It also increases poverty (দারিদ্রতা) and unemployment problem.

Roni: Illiterate people (জনগন) are not aware of their basic rights, needs, human rights and what not.

Rakib : Gender discrimination (লিঙ্গ বৈষম্য) is very severe within this kind of society (সমাজ). None can enjoy their freedom (স্বাধীনতা) in an illiterate society.

Roni: What is the way to get rid of (মুক্তি পাওয়া) such curse?

Rakib : The way is nothing other than building up an educated (শিক্ষিত) nation.

Roni: That’s true. We have to take drastic efforts and launch effective programs to encourage the mass people (লোকজন) for education.

Rakib : We should work hard hand in hand to educate the illiterate.

Roni: Obviously. Without united efforts we can not remove this curse from the lot of this nation.

Rakib : It’s a great thing that some necessary steps already have been taken by the government and nongovernment sector.

Roni : We also need to create people’s awareness so that they can send their children to school.

Rakib : Yes, of curse. It’s the key factor. Our government has already made education compulsory for all to remove illiteracy.

Roni: Books are being provided free of cost every year up to class ten.

Rakib : Female students are getting stipend for bearing their educational expenses.

Roni: We must co-operate with the govt.

Rakib : Yes, we must come forward in this regard.

Roni: But there are some people in our society who are very poor (দরিদ্র). They are unwilling to send their children (শিশু) to school owing to poverty (দারিদ্রতা).

Rakib : Indeed! It’s quite so. To persuade the poor people to send their children (শিশু) to school the government (সরকার) has also started ‘Food for Education’ programme.

Roni: Yes, it is an epoch-making step (পদক্ষেপ).

Rakib : But the govt. alone can not solve (সমাধান) the problem. Every educated person (ব্যাক্তি) including students must come forward to educate the illiterate.

Roni: Of course. To make the program a success (সফলতা) we must co-operate (সহযোগীতা) each other.

Rakib : If we are sincere in our words and deeds, nothing is impossible (অসম্ভব).

Roni: That’s right (ঠিক). Thank you.

Rakib : Ok. See you again (আবার).
