There lived many wild animals in the jungle. After walking for a while they saw a bear coming towards them. Both of them got frightened and were in a fix what to do. One of the friends knew how to climb up a tree and at once he climbed up a tree. The other did not know how to climb but knew that the bear does not eat any dead animal. So, finding no other way he laid down the ground just like a dead man.
এক গ্রামে দুই বন্ধু বাস করত। তাদের মধ্যে গভীর বন্ধুত্ব ছিল এবং তারা একে অপরকে সাহায্য করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিল। একদিন সন্ধ্যায় দুই বন্ধু একটি নির্জন বনের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। বনটিতে অনেক বন্য প্রাণী বাস করত। কিছুক্ষণ হাঁটার পর তারা দেখল একটি ভালুক তাদের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। দুজনেই ভয় পেয়ে গেল এবং কী করবে তা নিয়ে কিংকর্তব্যবিমূঢ় হয়ে পড়ল। এক বন্ধু গাছে চড়তে জানত, তাই সে তৎক্ষণাৎ একটি গাছে উঠে পড়ল। অন্যজন গাছে চড়তে জানত না, তবে সে জানত যে ভালুক মৃত প্রাণী খায় না। তাই অন্য কোনো উপায় না দেখে সে মাটিতে মৃত মানুষের মতো শুয়ে পড়ল।
The bear came near and smelt his body. He stopped breathing for some time. Thinking him dead the bear went away. Seeing the bear going away, the first friend got down the tree and said, “What did the bear whisper into your ear?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to trust such a friend who runs away leaving his friend in danger.”
ভালুকটি কাছে এসে তার শরীর শুঁকে দেখল। সে কিছুক্ষণ শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস বন্ধ করে রইল। তাকে মৃত ভেবে ভালুকটি চলে গেল। ভালুকটিকে চলে যেতে দেখে প্রথম বন্ধুটি গাছ থেকে নেমে এল এবং বলল, “ভালুকটি তোর কানে কানে কী বলল?” অন্য বন্ধুটি উত্তর দিল, “ভালুকটি আমাকে পরামর্শ দিল এমন বন্ধুকে বিশ্বাস না করতে, যে বিপদের সময় বন্ধুকে ফেলে পালিয়ে যায়।”

Once two friends were passing through a forest. The forest was full of ferocious animals and the two friends were very much frightened but they promised to stand by each other in danger. Suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them. One of knew who to climb a tree. He at once climbed a tree and hid himself. The other man, finding no other alternative fell flat on the ground and held his breath, pretending to be dead. The bear came up to him and smelt his nose , ears and face, took him to be a dead man and left the place.
একবার দুই বন্ধু একটি বনের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। বনটি হিংস্র প্রাণীতে পূর্ণ ছিল এবং দুই বন্ধু বেশ ভীত হয়ে পড়েছিল, তবে তারা একে অপরের বিপদে পাশে দাঁড়ানোর প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিল। হঠাৎ তারা দেখল একটি ভালুক তাদের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। তাদের মধ্যে একজন গাছে চড়তে জানত; সে তৎক্ষণাৎ গাছে উঠে নিজেকে লুকিয়ে ফেলল। অন্য কোনো উপায় না দেখে অপরজন মাটিতে উপুড় হয়ে শুয়ে পড়ল এবং শ্বাস বন্ধ করে মৃত হওয়ার ভান করল। ভালুকটি তার কাছে এসে তার নাক, কান ও মুখ শুঁকে দেখল এবং তাকে মৃত মনে করে সেখান থেকে চলে গেল।
Moral : A friend in need is a friend indeed.
নীতিবাক্য: বিপদের বন্ধুই প্রকৃত বন্ধু।
